CARPORN: 1953 Bentley La Sarthe R Type Fastback

Just under £300k could get you one of the most beautiful cars I’ve ever seen.

When is was a kid I had a small Corgi model of a Bentley Continental fastback and I have always considered it to be the most beautiful car to ever come from the British manufacturer. Until now. Feast your eyes on this beauty. Isn’t it stunning?

I found this on eBay. It is bespoke coachbuilt car and only 5 will be made. Here is what the eBay ad says:

1953 Bentley R Type Fastback Coupé by Bensport.

The car will also be displayed upon our Stand at Technoclassica in Essen & is available for viewings.

The La Sarthe Bentley fastback is produced as a limited production run to the customers bespoke specification. It features an R type chassis built to “as new” specification & is clothed with one of the most beautiful aluminium fastback bodies imaginable.

Specification is comprehensive & includes the following:

Body:
All aluminium two door fast back coupe.
Cowled front with inset stoneguard.
Rearward opening bonnet with two full louvre panels. (Louvres can be omitted if required).
Twin “Le Mans” type 125mm fuel filler caps mounted on rear quarters. 
Original wheels with original pattern (new) wheel trims. 
All exterior brightwork nickel plated.

Mechanical:
Standard configuration chassis with revised and uprated springs.
Modified (rose jointed) and uprated front anti roll bar.
Additional rear anti roll bar.
Alloy brake drums.
Manual or automatic gearbox.
Power steering (E-Z electric system).
Modified steering column rake angle.
Original engine totally rebuilt, with fast road cam, six branch exhaust manifold and high efficiency exhaust system with twin tailpipes.
Manual gearbox rebuilt to final factory specification.
Axle rebuilt with “Continental” 3.07:1 differential.
Lightweight aluminium fuel tank.
Special aluminium high efficiency radiator.
Spin off full flow oil filter with oil cooler.
Fully operational Bijur chassis lubrication system.

Electrics:
New wiring loom to our own specification, with independent fusing and relay control of all systems.
Alternator charging system.
Electronic ignition.
Air conditioning with electric motor driven compressor, with three speed heater blower motor.
Electric windows.
Heated rear window.
Central locking.
Heated seats.
Electronic instruments including Speedo, Rev counter (red lined as per Continental spec at 4,300 RPM), oil pressure gauge, oil temperature gauge, water temperature gauge, fuel gauge (with electronic tank unit), volt meter, clock, (all instruments to Bentley pattern with black faces, white figures and printed with the Bentley “B”).
Electric cooling fan with manual override.
Facet fuel pump.
Two speed self park wipers.
Twin Lucas windtone horns.

Trim and interior:
Specially designed sports seats with backrest adjustment.
Customer specified leather upholstery to seats, door and rear quarter panels and dash top.
Customer specified veneer (wood/aluminium) to dash face and door applique.
Customer specified carpet and headlining.

Options:
Bumpers and/or rear parking sensors.
Spats to rear wheel arches (with steel/alloy wheels only).
Hidden fuel fillers.
Alloy wheels.
Wire wheels with knock-off hubcaps.
Delete power steering.
Delete finned aluminium brake drums.
Suitcase set, trimmed in leather and embossed with “La Sarthe” logo attached by leather straps to raised luggage floor behind seats.
Alternative to above rear seat to provide two plus two seating arrangement.
Alternative platings in lieu of Nickel.

Orders are now being accepted with production of 5 units per year.
