Lotus to build limited run Exige LF1 to celebrate F1 history
Lotus has decided to celebrate it’s long history in Formula 1 by building 81 special Exige V6s. It’l be called the Exige LF1 and Lotus are building one for every victory the marque has had in Formula 1 (this includes the original Team Lotus and the current Lotus F1 Team).
The LF1 is based around the existing 3.5l V6 Exige S with a bespoke black and gold paint scheme with red accents and gold (17” front and 18” rear) alloy wheels. The design mimics the current Lotus F1 car but in a more subtle way than the last few F1 themed models from Hethel.
Jean-Marc Gales, Group Lotus CEO explained, “Lotus’ DNA is borne of the Formula 1® arena and with 65 years of motorsport racing experience, 40 of those in F1® it’s fitting we celebrate our sporting origins and our race successes with the new Exige LF1. 81 limited edition cars, each one an acknowledgement to each of Lotus’ 81 Grand Prix wins, this car is intended for the truest of Lotus’ racing fans.”
Inside the Exige LF1 features more black and gold detailing. Black leather has been applied to most of the surfaces with contrasting gold stitching. It looks better than it sounds though. Limited edition plaques let you know that your in a rare special edition model but more than that, each is numbered after the corresponding win for Lotus in F1. Cool huh?
The Exige LF1 makes its public debut during the second week of June at the Canary Wharf Motorexpo in London from Monday 9 June until Sunday 15 June and simultaneously at Le Mans 24 hours from Wednesday 11 June to Sunday 15 of June 2014. Visitors to the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed can see the Exige LF1 on display from 26 until 29 June.
